Being sick can be useful. Sport wheel swap tip for those with trip computers...
So I was at home today organizing some of my stuff. I came across the column switches from Adam's wrecked S6 avant. The headlight switch arm was broken off. I remembered that I had the column switches from a 92 S4 where the high beam didn't work. I wondered if I could swap the arms to fix the S6 switches. Turns out I could and it was very easy. Just remove the cover plate and swap in the arm.
This discovery started me thinking about my sport wheel swap and why I didn't use S6 column switches. The reason was I would lose my trip computer and intensive washer buttons unless I special ordered the switches from a European S6 that had a trip computer.
I wondered if I could just swap the arm from my 92 S4 switches to the S6 switches. Turns out it's not that simple as the ends of the arms are different.
92 is on top.

You may have noticed little pins next to the ends. Turns out you can drive the pins out and swap ends.

Now I have 92 switches where the high beam doesn't work and there is no headlight arm. I also have S6 switches with trip computer and intensive washer buttons. They even have the extra direction for the rear washer fluid sprayer since they came from an avant. Woo. My turn signals will cancel themselves now.

As it turns out, I say "turns out" a lot.

Good "sleuthing". I suggest you rig the extra switch to activate an oil spray ala James Bond.
<kidding>
But there must be a way to make it do something - like activate the functions on a TDS-1, for example.

What kind of switch is Dave using?
I installed the 80/90 trip computer switch but I'm not really "feeling" it. I need to get a 1995.5 steering wheel and a 1992 stalk. Not so easy for those of us without S-car graveyards in our basements.

I'm still using the one you provided, unmounted, stored in a blank switch cavity with extra....
wire, so I can pull it out an use it like some kind of detonator switch while I watch the screen change while I drive.
I like Skollies' discoveries though, as well.
