Default A/C vibration

I have had a 93 UrS4 for about 2 years now (86K miles) and when the A/C is turned on it really drags down the motor and even creates a vibration.

Is this the way it is on all UrS4 or could there be something wrong with mine?

Everything works fine, No vibrations with the A/C turned off. The A/C works fine and cools fine.

It just really robs engine power and creates a vibration.

Anybody have any ideas what to look for?

My 84 5000s never had such a problem with the A/C on. I know you can't compare the 5000 to the S4 but if anything you think you would see more power roobed fromt eh 5000 since it is so much less powerful than the S4.

Default Re: A/C vibration

I have the same sort of problem.. my solution.. dont use the air =)

anyway, I think you and I both need new motor mounts.. I have had at least one person tell me things smoothed out considerably after motor mounts and tranny mounts were replaced.

as far as draggin the power down? dunno.. but the shakes could be the mounts.

Yeah, I avoide using the A/C as much as possible. Maybe the power is not being robbed that much the vaibrations just make it hard to drive.

I'll check my motor mounts.

I replced my mounts (engine and trans) and everything smoothed out quite a bit. Not hard to do yourself. The old ones still look fine visually but clearly were worn out after feeling the difference.

Default It is normal for A/C compresor to make some vibration.......

but Your motor mounts should smothe it out.If not You have bad mounts or mounts could be just misaligned. As for power los there is nothing You can do about it.It is normal for compresor to use some of your engine power because it needs to compress refrigirant to high pressure in order to cool the car.Try driving VW golf A/T trans with 2.0 engine and then turn A/C on and then You will see what realy power loss means.

Default Compressor could be going bad?

Mine makes a clicking along w/vibration. My mechanic inspected it and said it needs to be replaced. I'm sourcing a rebuilt unit and will see if it fixes it :-)
