I did a quick search through the archives and found no result so forgive me if this has been discussed before and I just didn't find anything.
My 95 S6 will not lock properly. The batteries in the key have been long dead and I never replaced them so I have always been using the key to manually lock/unlock it by twisting it twice in the drivers door. Recently, I have been doing the same thing but now only the driver's door locks, it makes the little honk noise, but all the other doors remain unlocked. In order for me to lock the car I have to go door to door and push down the little nub manually. When I press the button on the driver door or the passenger door to lock or unlock the car, nothing happens at all.
What can be the problem here?

The central locking feature requires an air pump under the rear seat to provide vacuum for lock operation. If there is a break in the tubing you will hear the pump operate when you attempt to lock/unlock all doors. Silence means the pump is the problem.

I agree with Tom (scarman). The central locking pump and control unit is under the back seat bottom, in a foam (sound deadening) case. It is item 18 in the middle area of the diagram below. The PN of the pump for an Infrared (95 and earlier) system is 4A0862257J and the PN for the radio control locking system (95.5 and newer) is 8L0862257G. It could be an electrical problem or it could be a vacuum/pressure hose has split.

Just pulled up the backseat and had a friend lock and unlock the car for me. Dead silence. I'm going to pull it out and probably order a new one. Hopefully that will fix the problem.

You might be able to get a used one from Force5 or another reputable wrecking yard with C4 A6 Audis.

You weren't really specific about your vehicle. There are S6 vehicles built in mid to late 1995 that are referred to here as 95.5 models because of the significant changes. Since they are not OBD 2 certified, they were sold as 95 model year cars but incorporated all the other changes made to the A6 models for model year 96. Here, that means a change to a RF remote locking system to replace the infrared system. Note that the 95.5 nomenclature is only used by the owners on forums like this-it was never used by Audi.
You can easily run the part numbers by one of the Audi dealers that sell parts online. These are the best four IMO, but there are others:
Miramar Audi, San Diego:

Rector Audi, Burlingame, CA:
http://www.audipartsnationwide.com/p...?siteid=215503
Jeff at Sunset Audi, Portland, OR area:
http://www.audiusaparts.com/partloca...?siteid=215820
Carson Heter, Classic Audi Orlando, FL area. You can look up the web site and phone # from Audis web site.
These last two are good anytime, but especially if you live in CA and don't want to pay the tax.
There are other links for aftermarket dealers in the FAQ at the top of this forum page, not the web site FAQ.
As mentioned by UrS4boy, one of the cars being parted in the audifans.com marketplace or these classifieds or force5.com for Chris Semple might be better than new parts. You can make that decision by checking the dealer price at these web sites above.
