sounds like you may have an exhaust leak cause thats what my car was doing it was saying i was lean due to the leak and causing wicked rich idle conditions.

No. The O2 sensor was reading about .1v or less. Very lean reading but it smelled strongly of gasoline. I put in a new MAF and it's all good. It sounds crazy but I read somewhere that VERY rich exhaust can make the O2 sensor think it's lean because the fuel is not burning all the way and therefore the oxygen is not burning all the way and ends up passing by the O2 sensor. It sounds counterintuitive but I put in a Porsche 968 MAF (same as S6) and it's perfect now. Wish me luck at the emmision station.

HC at idle and at 2000rpms is over 400ppm. When I left my house it smelled nice and clean. O2 was hovering around .45v. After witing for 1h15m for the inspection it failed. Driving home it was running like crap. Back in the driveway it smells like gas and the O2 is at .10 or .08v. WTF.

From what i've heard, high HC and normal CO is a misfire (passing unburned fuel) and high HC and High CO is an over rich mixture. Maybe time for the 1.8T coil project.

I've pulled the injector connectors but there seems to be an equal effect on all cylinders. The miss--if thats what it is--seems sporatic. Do I need to buy a new coil and try it in each position?
