On the way to work yesterday I noticed a spot in the RPM range where the car seem to run rough and have a slight hesitation. On the way home from work the roughness / hesitation became very bad. When cruising at 65-70 in 5th gear at around 3K rpms, when I gave part throttle I could feel a vibration in the car. If I gave it more throttle the vibration got more violent. If I let off the gas, there was no vibration at all. If I downshifted I could accelerate just fine. It only seems to happen at lower RPMs.
Does this sound like an ignition or boost issue or do I need to look somewhere else?? I did not get any check engine lights while this was happening. I will try and check for codes with my VAG-Com this afternoon.

If the POS fails you will have almost no torque at low RPMs and the engine will run rough. You will also notice a bad sulfer smell when you stop because you are dumping 1/5 of your fuel unburned into the catalytic converter where it is burning. STFA for POS.

the body. Cause the moment I let off the throttle it stopped. Just my 2 cents.

I guess I will go ahead and try to unplug the injector for one cyl at a time to see if I can figure out which one is not firing.

It was either the computer or a CPS. When I replaced the CPS I guess my solder joint was near where the wires wrapped around the head. The wires are so small and brittle from the original Audi wiring that I had an intermittent problem with my replacement CPS. Last week I used the wiring and connector from an old VW knock sensor and attached it to my replacement CPS closer to the cam gear so my solder joints could stay straight. Haven't had a check engine light since.

I just notice it a lot more at that speed since that is the speed limit on the road I drive to work and back.
