Default Carl, and those interested...

I looked at the serp belt tensioner you gave me. The Japanese bearing you used is noticeably less precise than the correct high temp SNR bearing that I used. My recommendation is that if you are replacing the bearing in your serpentine belt tensioner, please use the correct high temp SNR bearing. It may be that the grease was heated. I don't know. The Japanese bearing has no marking on it to indicate that it is a high temp bearing. I would think that's it not.

Default Thanks Gabe. I ended up replacing the whole thing. It was bouncing at an idle.

I suspect the spring was worn out. And after seeing how Tims (repeater) came apart. I don't know if I would just replace the bearing anymore.

Default That's weird. I actually tried your tensioner in my car just to see. There was no bouncing.

Anyway that was just info for those replacing the bearing.

Carl, does your new one bounce around when the AC compressor is engaged?

Default I don't know I have not looked. I caught the other one because it was making a ticking noise.

I had just finished a 300 mile drive up to my cabin and the car was pretty new to me. I pulled into my driveway and when I got out of the car I left it running so I could unlock the door to the house. I heard the noise when I walked past the hood of the car. I opened the hood and pulled out my flashlight and saw the tensioner bouncing in rhythm with the noise. It was about 10 degrees outside and my friend that was with me thought I was insane. He was saying open the door I am
F---ing freezing. Anyway since it was replaced the ticking noise is gone so I have not really payed much attention to it. I could look if you would like me to.

Default If you happen to notice I'd be interested...

Mine doesn't bounce at idle, but it does quite a bit with the AC. If your new one bounces with the AC then I'll stop worrying about that.

I gotta get me a cabin one of these days
