Gents,
In my quest to figure out why my TO4E turbo is smoking between the center section and hot-side housing I am finding out that a high crank-case pressure can cause this.
Per Ola at ITS:
"It sounds like the oil is still leaking past the seal....however, this does not mean that the seal is defective....most likely it is leaking due to oil level inside the bearing housing is able to reach the area of the piston ring seal, this "seal" which is not there to keep oil in, but to keep pressure from the exhaust out, cannot stop the oil from flowing past it.
Suggestion; if you have not already made significant upgrade to you crankcase breathing system, do so."
This is really something I dont understand too well...nor know how to alleviate or measure to see if that is the cause
Any help/advice on this issue would be appreciated
Thx
Cody

in the oilpan which is preventing the oil draining from the turbo.
Check your Positive crankcase vents and make sure they're working.

...the only place it could come from is cylinder blow by. That should be relieved at the breather in the intake tube (MAF to turbo) just before the turbo inlet. It would also mean your MM hose is full of oil - as well as your IC. Pull the hose just before the throttle body - oily? Theory holds -er- water. (Alternately - remove the case vent from the inlet tube - plug the inlet tube - and start it up. Goose it. Lots coming out of the vent? Blow-by.)
I bloody well doubt it. That's one h*ll of a lot of blow by.

Which tube is the inlet tube? On the valve cover there are 2 breather tubes. One that exits the rear of the VC and the other that goes from the MAF to turbo hose to the VC.
