Default Do I need to replace my rear caliper??

After STFA and doing some research I was wondering if could get away with just doing the 'rebuild' of the caliper. My passenger side rear seems to be sticking. It will unstick after some driving, but it's still glazing the outside (to my knowledge, the inside might be getting warn also for all I know) of the rotor. I looked at Fred Monro's (sp?) page and it seems that the rebuild is if the inside only of the caliper is sticking.

On a side note, if I do need to replace... does anyone have one laying around?

Default how are the guide pins? rubber boots ripped? I would disassemble the caliper..

take some 320 sand paper clean the pins (use a dremmel with a wire brush end) and replace the rubber boots if torn. grease the pins lightly before reassembly

Default Also lube the crap out ouf the p-brake lever arm pin

A penetrating lubricant will work it's way in and could free up the mechanism.

Default You can try a homefry rebuild but in the end, for the price, I say, replace (Instruction Link inside

Default Sounds like a lot of work to save a few bucks.

I mean, the rebuld will take you some time, and take some time and money to get the parts.

Just get a rebuilt caliper from Chris at Force5.

Default That's the how-to I used.

The only deviation I made was to replace the flex lines.

It makes the job easier to replace the flex lines at the same time. As long as you're in there, why not, right? Flex lines are cheap, and do require periodic replacement.

Default have you checked the cables?

mine used to be the same way, it was the cables sticking. I replaced teh cables, lubed the pin and they work great now.
