As an attempt at diagnosis, does anyone who has done the 1.8t coil pack swap have a known good PSO / POS they could loan me (or sell me reasonably) to do some testing?

Folks doing the 1.8t swap should seriously consider using the 1.8t POS, it's MUCH cheaper !

The 1.8t POS is built into the Coil..... You cannot do the swap without using it.....
