Default e/S2 3B engine ECU problems...HELP!!!!1

Well, I picked up another "claimed to be good" 3B ECU that is stock with zero mods.

I found that my ground strap to the block was not correct and I fixed it. Engine cranks great and I have good spark!!! I shot some engine starter fluid into the manifold and the car fired right up!!!

THe injectors are not activating, I get power to them 11.4 volts, but no ignition from petrol. I don't here them click or do anything.

Fuel pump relay clicks on during cranking and the pump comes on but the fuel pump sounds very weak.

Checked codes on ECU and I get the same codes 2111, 2121, and the 1111

All fuses are good.

I checked all the ground straps. Manifold, battery, block, and foot welll area. All good.

For the life of me I can't figure WTF is going on!!!

Any ideas?????

Thanks

Default

No cars covered in this forum have a 3B engine or ECU.

Maybe you just need new injectors... but try the 200/5000/V8 forum.

Default You need to check the fuel pump flow. It needs to pump 675 mL in 15 seconds. See Bentley.

Or search the FAQ (link in my sig) for Fuel pump testing.

Default Technically, this forum covers the S2 and the early S2s had 3Bs. But you're right, in practise this

forum has almost no 3B knowledge or members. The S2 forum out of Britain would be a good source of info.

Default Did you check the distributor alignment?

You may want to verify that the distributor is aligned properly at TDC so that the hall sensor output voltage is pulled low at this point. If you have an oscilloscope then you can check it as described in the link below with the engine turning over. Otherwise, you can check it with a DC meter with the engine stopped near TDC. You should see the voltage go from low to high as you move the crankshaft angle plus or minus 20 degrees or so away from TDC. You'll need to back-probe the connector to the hall sensor with the ECU still connected (unless you want to power up the sensor by itself and attach a pull-up resistor on the output).

Default code 1111 - ecu fault or bad ecu grounds, 2111 bad rpm sensor

got sjm's site and check all your grounds on the ecu connector with an ohm meter.

1111 (Blink Fault Code), 65535 VAG1551/2 Fault Code Number
Engine Control Unit (ECU) Defective memory circuits,
Incorrect Checksum for internal memory (EPROMs)
(this can occur on some modified ECU's) Check ECU ground connections, Check EPROM programming
Symptom: Check engine light may come on

2111 (Blink Fault Code), 00513 VAG1551/2 Fault Code Number
RPM sensor (G28)
Open or short circuit, sensor malfunction
Defective sensor & cables, metal fragments on flywheel teeth
Symptom: Engine will not start, misfires, may stop running

last one wont cause any start issues just idle issues.

2121 (Blink Fault Code), 00516 VAG1551/2 Fault Code Number
Idle switch problem
Switch open circuit, stuck closed Switch defective (Internal solder connections intermittent) or wiring problem<ul><li><a href="http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/20vtecu.htm">SJM ECU Diagnostics</a></li></ul>

Default Careful. SJM's info is copyrighted. If you post the actual info here, he may have your post nuked

by the Mods.

Ask me how I know.

Ask me why I redid the ECU pin-out from scratch and then added wire colors, etc. that Scott never had.

Go on. Ask me.

Default I shot starter fluid into the intake manifold and she fired right up and ran for about 4 seconds.

She sounded in time and smooth for what fuel there was to burn in there. Spark is good.

I triple checked ALL TDC marks and all were
"Spot on" the marks.

Default I did some checking on my fuel injectors

I have Ford Racing Green Top 42 pound injectors.

I did the diagnose tests and the injectors done do a thing!!! Signal is being sent but the injectors do not respond.

I have been told my injectors may be TOO BIG and that may be my problem...

Anyone with any suggestions on which injectors I should use...

TIA
Joe
