Corey, on the S2 forum, who is a 034Motorsports distributor in England just completed a 1.8t coil pack "science project". He didn't want to just believe me that the 1.8t coil packs would die from the heat if the OEM 20v Turbo coil pack cover was installed over them. SO he installed the 034 coil pack conversion kit AND the OEM coil pack cover and waited to see what would happen (the "science project"). He started this project on May 2nd. It ended yesterday, July 2nd, with a failure of the 1.8t coil pack on his no. 5 cylinder.
He says he is now going to work on some kind of air scoop to improve cooling.

but they are cheap to replace. I have OE units with 200k+ miles on them from a parted car and they are doing just fine. If you can find me a 1.8t with a coil that lasts more than 50k miles I'll give you a cookie![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The 1.8t coil upgrade is nice, it eliminates the expensive POS's which have been known to fail, and installs a cheap alternative to the stock coil. However the stock coil is a great piece, deals with obscene heat like a champ.
I know if I ever do the 1.8t coil conversion on my 90 that I will keep at least one extra coil in the car at all times, possibly a whole set for track events.
Cheers,

they got the original contract because they came in lower than Bosch in the tendering process. I think VW/Audi Group made Bremi build the replacement coils (probably with a VAG person watching QA/QC in Bremi's factory). I understood that the 115 L coils would be good. I think there is an M or N variant now (more expensive) but I do not know who makes them (Bosch or Bremi).
