Default front strut bearing - need advice

I believe my right front strut bearing needs replacing. Looking at parts, I can buy the bearings only at $22 or replace the complete strut mount for $83.
Question for the experienced: Is it easy to replace the bearings only?
I assume the strut mount is the complete assy which already contains the bearings.

TIA

Default Well you have to disassemble to get to the bearing either way. if you need to replace your shocks

now would be a good time to do that also...

I agree, there really is no point in tearing it all down and putting old stuff back in!

The mount and the bearing are different things. Generally, the mount does not include a bearing.

Default Is getting to the bearing straight fwd? any special tools?

I replaced the struts a year ago but did not change bearings because they were ok at the time and the plan was to sell the car in a few months anyway. So now I can remove the whole strut assembly by memory. Kickin myself now for the extra work I created for myself. I can't seem to get myself to sell the car. Car runs too nice and is in great shape.

On another note, I went to the audi dealer today for a few small parts and checked out all the new cars. All I can say is they look sweet. Didnt test drive any as I did not want to waste anyones time. The S5 is badazz.

Same tools you would use to disassemble front strut.

Default No, strut bearing at top of strut tower.

I do not remember actually seeing the bearing when I did my struts. Not sure exactly what I need to do to access the bearings.
