Good news, ECS Squeal minimized

Armed with AutoZone chez whiz, I dismantled the the calipers and went crazy with the stuff. It dries to a rubbery acrylic nature, so I put a very thin coat on the rotor backing, pad to piston contact points, sides of the pad that contact the top and bottom of the caliper and again where the retaining clip contacts the pad. Finally I put a very thin coat on the ECS aluminum bracket.
I sanded the rotors in a circular motion as well.
Reassembled, retorqued and tested, here is what happened:
No low speed squealing for the first few 25-0 stops (normal city type braking)
Two squeals (again, the loud, holy crap squeal) at the next 25-0 stops. But they were a bit less pronounced than earlier.
I drove 25-35 for another 10 minutes making 3-4 stops, no sound at all. Made 2 50-0 firm stops, no sound but smelled cooking smell :-). Drove 10 minutes 25-35 on the way home making 5-6 stops, no sound.
Brakes are cooling in the garage w/ car in gear.
So... jury is still out, but it's already better!

Good for you. Unfortunately I'm still squealing like a pig.......
I used the Castle Brake Silicone as ECS suggested. Did the same thing, anywhere the metal backing of the pad meets the caliper got a taste. Took it for a drive and no luck.....same "give an old lady a heart attack" squeal. It's especially pronounced while turning. I give up. The better braking power is great and that's what's most important but the squeal is taking all the fun out of them. The only way I don't squeal is to beat the snot out of them everytime I stop. That gets old after a while. I have a note over to ECS about the possibility of changing the pad. Who knows but it's worth a try.

Are you using Mintex Red Box?
I have blue box CTECH 1144, more agressive, but it may be worth a try. I'm wondering if the squeal will go away after a lot of the cadmium plating is worn away.
What consistency does the silicone have?

Yup, that's what I have. The silicone is like....ummmm........vasoline......
it's really slick and doesn't change consistancy with time.
Some bad news.....2 of my dampers broke when trying to remove the pads. I'm sure that's not helping. The damn adhesive backing pulled off from the part that goes into the piston. It never ends!!

Did you remove the caliper?
If you remove the caliper (10mm hex bit is required), it's much easier to get to everything... which you probably did.
My mechanic installed a gummy substance that I removed before using the acrylic stuff. It didn't work either. I like the idea of the "hardening" because then it should stay in place more. I know the stuff I used is for 'merican cars... but hey, if it works, I'll use it.
I'm interested to hear how replacing the dampers affects your squeal.... I wish I knew WHERE exactly it was coming from.

I'll be better tomorrow.....just mad right now. Took some time off from work to....
take them apart. I'm not getting rid of them, just really want to fix this issue, maybe I need to beat the heck out of them for a day or so. Do some "spirited driving".

I'm telling you, it's the pads that have to go. I really dislike the Redbox anyway, but...
it's known to squeal for this application, big time. Spend some bucks for a better pad, the Porterfield RS or the KF Street pads are the way to go. No noise, everyone in BIRA reports these pads are the way to eliminate noise. I've run many a pad, plus the KF Street on my Porsche Boxster/312x25 Coleman setup without 1 squeak, ever. Dusty pads, but I can live with it. Right now I have Hawk HPS on the G60's on the 90q20v and those have never made one noise either, nice pads as well.
