Once I took the panel out and tried to get the back of the switch off it didn't really want to come apart. I was afraid I would break the housing completely, so I just pried it open a bit and sprayed some contact cleaner/renewer into the switch. shook it around a bit and then sprayed some more and let it drain out. I put everything back together and it works like a charm with no more possessed goofiness.
