Default i finally got the cluster out but have a few questions

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/107720/cluster_work_05.jpg">
i noticed that this wasnt pluged in. whats it for?

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/107720/cluster_work_06.jpg">
in this pic you can see that i tweeked the cluster a bit. is it fubar'ed!?

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/107720/cluster_work_04.jpg">
can i run my boost gauge tube thru here (where that big black with white strip wire is) to get it into the engine bay?

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/107720/cluster_work_07.jpg">
in this pic you can see the bottom part of the cluster has a bevel egde
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/107720/cluster_work_08.jpg">
this part of the cluster doesnt have the bevel edge and i think this is the part that gets snaged up when removing the cluster. my question is can i grind this down to help the ease of removing the cluster? i'll be taking out the cluster again because i'm waiting for the red cluster bulb condoms that are on back order.

man, replacing the ignition switch was a pain in the ***! but i got it finished.

Default First, cancel your condom order, they are worthless. 2nd..

That purple plug should be plugged into something I would think. 3rd- you did not fubar that backplate too bad, should present no problems for you. 4th- Why would you route your boost gauge behind the cluster, are you trying to install the gauge in the IC housing? If not there are many easier places to route the line.

And finally, the UrS cluster is one of the easiest clusters I have ever removed. It should take no more than 3 minutes, unless you strip one of those phillips heads. Something doesn't seem right if you had to fight it to get it out.

Default i'm not going to cancel the order because i want to see for myself if the help

make my cluster light up red. i'm not buying red led bulbs because i tried them in my CQ and didnt work that well.

anyone can tell me where the purple plug plugs into?

thats good to know that i didnt fubar the backing plate of the cluster.

i'm looking for place to run the boost tube into the engine bay w/o drilling a hole and thats the only place that i saw where it looks like i can feed the tube thru. i'm mounting the boost gauge in the center console air vents.

if the UrS cars are the easiest clusters to remove then why do some members here including myself say they struggle with it? have you removed a cluster for CQ/80/90s!? i can remove my CQ cluster and change out the cluster bulbs and reinstall the cluster in about 5 mins.

Default Not sure why you'd need bulb condoms....

The red/orange color of the back lighting comes from what's in the IC, not the color of the bulb itself. All the replacement bulbs are supposed to be clear.

Just make sure you order the 2.0 watt bulbs so they will be brighter.

As far as removing the instrument cluster, I ALWAYS reccomend taping up the underside of the dash opening with good 3M duct tape. The WHOLE thing. It won't make your opening any smaller and will protect your dash from any damage. On second though, also tape up the upper part of the stalk cluster at the steering wheel. Be safe everyone!

There's a trick to removing it and it's a bit of a chinese puzzle, but once you've done it a few times its not all that bad. But, I still use tape every time!!!

Default THOSE WHO HAVE NOT DONE THIS PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT!

It's been done and works great. I have red bulb condoms with 2.0W bulbs on my 90 cluster. Works perfect! It changed the amber backlighting to red. A friend did this on his 100 cluster as well (very similar to urs4) with 1.5W bulbs and the red condoms. Worked great for him. I'm about to do this to my Urs4 cluster as well.

It won't do anything for Urs6 clusters though. They already have red backlighting. All it'll do is reduce the light output.

Sorry for the caps. I just wanted to get the point across;-)
