Default I think my fuel pump might be dying again, and it's a new fuel pump!

Just in the last couple days the car is taking longer and longer to start, 10 seconds of cranking sometimes. This is what happened when my fuel pump was dying. Replacing the pump fixed the problem. But now only a couple months later it's doing it again? Ahhhh! Could it be anything else? If the new pump really has died again do you think I could get it fixed a second time under a warranty or something? I had the work done at an Audi (non dealer) garage using a pump they supplied (an Audi part, I assume).

Thanks.

Default If fuel pumps are anything like hard drives, there's probably a high infant mortality rate...

due to things like manufacturing defects and incorrect installation. After a few thousand miles, the failure rate drops off drastically, and then very slowly and steadily rises.

That's all the noise I have to contribute on this topic. Good luck... hopefully it's something easy.

Default Took it to a garage, fixed. Now I wonder if the fuel pump was bad the first time I replaced it...

The problem was the fuel pressure regulator. When I turned off the car the fuel would drain back into the tank, causing it to crank a bunch the next time I started it as it pushed the fuel back to the engine. Hah.

Cost me 450 Canadian. :-|
