When you delete your post, you automatically delete other's posts too. Why take the time to respond to a post if there is a good chance that the thread creator will delete the thread?

this last case, it was virtually all me and Nate with no useful contributions. No useful info except perhaps the exif program data and the fact that digital cameras can "lie" if the user does not set the date correctly. This misinformation sent me on a quest that was ultimately futile.

Even the moderators don't do that: either the post violates the TOU or it doesn't.
If posts of little value were deleted, there would be almost nothing left here.

I would suggest the content of that person's post is subject to that person's call.
The subsequent postings *should* be taken into consideration, IMO.
But it is a failing of this particular forum software that subsequent replies get nuked, too.
In a free and voluntary forum, I'm not sure what good complaining about how one or more posters posts does for the forum community at large.
Might as well complain about my zero-content crap. I know it's zero-content, and YOU know it's zero-content - complaining in public about it won't make me post less zero-content fluff.
Everyone's style and take are different. Which is why the mods are fairly hands-off in this forum. I can tell you from experience that the forums whose content is closely regulated are not very informative, because folks don't like to go there. Soon, the regulation regulates everyone to another, free-form forum.
If the forum software were better, I'd bet you could still do the "edit" and "delete" thing without disrupting any other posting. But that's not the way it is here, so we'll have to accept the price of having those functions, since nobody can actually control then except the person who has the account, and the moderators.
