and puts way too much oil in his car, so much so that the oil blows out the crankcase and in to the intake tract. So much so that if even finds its way up in to the MAF. Would that cause crazy hesistation and power cutting in and out?

Default My understanding is...

...that getting any hydrocarbon-based stuff on the heated wire is a VERY BAD THING.

I'd suggest that you're going to have to get a new MAF.

Ooops, I mean *your friend* is going to have to get a new MAF.

Default Hmm.. do I know this "friend"? If so I would tell him that...

he might want to just put 4 L out next time he does an oil change if counting empty cans is a problem. In the mean time, it probably would be a good idea to clean MAF (and the IC and the TB and...)

Default Not as bad as when my 'friend" changed his oil and..

Forgot to put the drain plug back in before he started adding the new quarts of oil.

He actually ran the car for a little while until he realized that the catch container had way too much oil in it.

Since it was late and he didn't want to bother buying new oil he just poured the used oil back into the engine (at least he had a new filter).

Really this was my friend - but I was supervising so I guess I am kinda an idiot.

Default Well it turns out that Adam's oil pan had a bunch of hairline cracks in it so

he had to constantly keep putting oil in it. Eventually he put too much in because I didn't have time to fix it. This weekend we swapped in a good oil pan so it's not dumping oil anymore but the MAF is probably all mucked up. I bought electrical contact cleaner as I heard carb cleaner was bad for the MAF. Think that will work?

I have only heard about using Isopropyl alcohol on a MAF.
