IMHO, B5 and C4 are very driving experiences. The B5's are very torquey like V8's or small Diesels..
They have very little lag and take off quickly when you punch it, but the little turbos don't do much for you after 5K. They are great when driving around town in stop and go traffic. With the C4, after 3.5K, its really pulls to redline.
Like you said, the B5's issues can be remedied with $$(K04's and RS4 or 2.8 Heads).
After driving both cars back to back, I understand what the B5 guys have been complaining about for three years.
The biggest issue with my C4 is the D$#@%&*^ Heat soak and piddley widdley Intercooler.

Denver Dyno Day Results...
These results were from a dyno day we had last February. Cody Payne's and Dave Dawson's C4 S4s were both RS2 spec. Cody's has since been rebuilt and Dave's in progress.
