...mine developed a split near end closest to the front of the engine bay. The front (obviously) came off easy but that rear section of the hose was really on there even once the clamp was off! The tight quarters, sensors and other bits in the vicinity made for bruised knuckles. All in all was a $5 fix for a new section of hose and some clamps. Can't complain, especially considering the heat that particular hose gets.

Default I actually found it pretty easy to replace, except for tightening the clamps

I was also pretty much sitting on the valve cover.

Default The rear is attached with a banjo bolt. You can always remove it to get the rear off easily.

I saw kday do this job at Limerock a few years back between run sessions. The car was red hot and he was *not* enjoying himself.

Heh, I never thought of attacking it from that angle, but, it was more or less the clamps.

Default Oh god, I wouldn't imagine of trying to do that job if the engine was hot...even just running it...

...for a few minutes to check for leaks and having the coolant get pretty warm was uncomfortable. :-\

Default ^ BTW is this the hose that ETKA refers to as the "water pipe > water pump"?

034 121 063 C (number 5 on illustration 121-50)?

Default ... except it's really tough to get a socket on that banjo.

A box end ratchet wrench might work but I don't have the right size, it's a pretty big bolt.

Default What kind of hose did you use?

My BTDT:

Generic fuel hose: 1 year to failure
Aeroquip AQP fancy-pants hose: 2.5 years to failure
Piece of scrap power steering hose: 4 weeks and counting
$15 Audi hose from SJM: waiting on deck
