My AC compressor cuts in and out sometimes when it's really hot...

This has happened twice so far. When first started on an especially hot (90+F) day, the compressor cycles on and off for a while before eventually staying on. It's like one of the pressure switches is tripping. Any ideas? I had the system recharged last year when I replaced the compressor. The AC cools the car off but is not particularly impressive.

the connector to mine became disconnected and the a/c would cycle when stopped, but worked fine once moving at a decent pace or on the highway.

turned out it was low and the low pressure switch was cutting in and out.
pop the hood and listen to the switches you can hear which one it is thats doing it. IF it turns out to be the high pressure switch it may have been over charged and the excess heat is making the freon expand even more

I was just looking at the wiring diagrams, and there are actually two high pressure switches. One turns off the clutch at ~400 psi and the other turns on the high speed fan at ~200 psi. The fan goes to high speed right away when I engage the compressor and doesn't turn off until 10-20 seconds after the AC is shut off. That suggests that the system is hitting 200+ psi and staying there...
It's all the more plausible because it was kicking on and off when I was driving slowly on surface streets, but stayed steady on the highway.
I bet the FMIC is hurting the condenser heat transfer...
