when i go to start the car in the morning it always works perfectly. I had my battery & alternator tested and they're both fine. i replaced the ignition switch which made the problem go away for about an hour and then it slowly returned (perhaps coincidence since it changed it in the morning when it was cool outside).
What are the symptoms of a bad starter or starter relay? When its hot, i have to try to start it about 4-5 times before it cranks long enough to get it going. when it doesn't work, it goes crank, crank, loud buzz.... and will continue buzzing until i let go of the key. the buzz is definitely coming from the engine bay, so it sounds to me like my starter is going.

your solenoid is going out. Your car cranks but then the solenoid kicks out but your starter continus to run. Thats the buzzing sound your hearing.

As long as you don't hear any loud grinding sound. It sounds to me like your soleniod is just disengaging. Unfortunately the starter and soleniod are one unit, but not to difficult to replace.

I'd get under there and make sure all the electrical connections to the starter and solenoid are tight. And chase the ground straps from the engine to the chassis and the battery to the chassis. I had similar symptoms and found the ground strap from engine to chassis was loose.

it seems to be in a difficult stop to get access to w/o a lift, but if you have some suggestions that would be great.
it's definitely not grinding, just sounds like it's free-wheeling.
