Re: need a complete audio write up
I don't know of a complete writeup. I did my stereo this summer, and didn't run into anything strange. In my case I kept the factory head unit, so wiring was slightly more complicated, but with the Bentley wiring diagrams it was obvious. Definitely get the wiring diagrams before you start.
I put 4"s in the front as well (with 1" tweeters). I used half of the Bose enclosure (modified with a Dremel and some epoxy putty) to hold the 4" drivers. This was probably the easiest way, but if I did it again I would seriously consider fabricating a bracket for the biggest speakers I could fit without screwing with the factory grille. Probably 5.25"s.
Some people have had success with re-using the Bose enclosures entirely, but at least in my case the enclosure volume was way off, and caused the response to be very peaky. FYI, the enclosure volume is 1.75 liters. If you haven't bought the 4" drivers yet, consider trying to find a speaker that matches that enclosure volume (might be tough).
The back speakers are easy. Just drill out the plastic welds holding the grille to the speaker enclosure. It will snap back together fine without them.

quick question... why is it that keeping the factory head unit makes wiring more difficult?
where can i find the bentley wiring diagrams? also, i don't have a maintenence manual... any good suggestions?
thanks!

Re: need a complete audio write up
It's really not more difficult, now that I think about it. Replacing the HU means doing wiring that using the factory HU doesn't require, and vice versa.
The bentley wiring diagrams come with the bentley service manual CDROM. It's worth the $60 or so. I think I got mine from thepartsconnection.com.
