Go to Tire Rack's Web site
They have a nice system for telling you which tire size is correct for various wheel sizes .
But to answer your question, 225 60 R16's will be too large in diameter and will affect your speedometer and gearing. If you want higher profile tires I think that you can go with the stock A6 size which was 195/65-15. The only other option I see for 16" wheels is 205/55-16.

The 225/60/16 tire radius will be 0.9 inches larger...
So you'll gain that much in ground clearance but your speedometer will read 7.1% slower. At 60 mph on the speedo you'll actually be travelling at 64 mph.
Here's a tire size calculator:

I ran A8 wheels and tires (225-60-16) for awhile. Heavy, decreases acceleration and...
they rub on the rear of the plastic fender liner during very tight (high wheel angle) turns, e.g. parallel parking.
I hit the speed limiter (130 mph) running these tires so do the math for the actual speed.

Re: The 225/60/16 tire radius will be 0.9 inches larger...
yes i know it will become larger and it will read slower but you think it will affect something else negatively??? the transmission or fuel consumption for example. my main concern is to gain clearance and less damage to the rims, what do u think???

well i am not concerned about acceleration much, but hiting the fender would be a problem, by the way i have lifted my clearance about 3 to 4 cm through suspension, u think it will still hit???

If you are damaging tires you need to go to a wider tire w/ a higher load rating
The added air volume of a wider tire will better absorb impacts. Even if the tire is a lower profile number (ie 245/45 vs 225/50) the wider tire will have nearly the same sidewall height and the added volume will help with impacts.
Play around with the tire calculator to find what wider tires are close to the stock size diameter and get tires with the highest load rating you can find.

Tire size calculator

Re: Go to Tire Rack's Web site
i am not concerned about speed, what i need is clearance less damage to the rims, and i want to keep the 16", this is why i want a higher tyre, but i dont want this to affect anything serious in the car, what do u think??? the 55 instead of 50 will give me 1.12 instead of 2.25cm

Can't help you.First person that I have heard of who has raised his stock El Rancho suspension.
Typically, we get rid of the El Rancho look and lower the car 1.5 inches or so. Raising the stock suspension is not in our vocabulary. (At least im my 10 years on this forum)

Rancho is an asset in March, mountain roads..
I chuckle when I read AW with the most abused term Rancho.
My S6 has OEM stock suspension, my winter tires are mounted on this one
My S4 has H&R Bilsteins, my summer tires are mounted on this one.
During warm weather months, smooth roads my S4 will easily out handle the OEM S6. Once it snows, I stuff the S4 in the barn.
During Winter months, where Quattro really shines, my S6 will EASILY out handle my S4 on bumpy, frost heaved, curvy mountain roads.
Call it Rancho, but I will cite personal experience above and assert the manifold joys of having 2, optimized for the season.
