Default Well....

You probably have a boost leak of some kind. Did you mess with the bypass valve? The ISV is the only thing that keeps the car idling, so why would you want to remove it? If it's not a boost leak, then perhaps you damaged the MAF?

Default Add the cone filter....

to the garbage.

I agree with Tim. You have a boost leak. The ECU senses overboost and puts the car into limp mode. Restarting clears it. Consider some upgraded (Samco) boost hoses..

The factory cold air intake is better.

Default New OEM hoses work too. Check the Michelin Man cross-over pipe to intercooler hose.

They crack in the corrugations and the cracks don't open up until you are under boost.

Default Yeah, they'll work. I guess the decision to Samco depends on how much power you want to run and...

how long you intend to keep the car.

He had posted about upgrading to a chip or more, so that's why I recommended the Samco's. Any idea what the cost difference is? It can't that much, can it?

Default Costs are probably similar. Sean D. (quattro20v) is running OEM hoses on his RS2'd 1997 S6 and...

has had no problems. However, his hoses are new or pretty new. I believe the MM is/was new.

Default Correct, all new except the IC to IM.

I got both wholesale, so for me it was cheaper. But if you are paying retail, its the same cost as the Samcos.

Default Re: Well....

i dont have a boost leak because i capped off both ends and filled with compressor and it hold 20psi with no drop...
i do this on my g60 corrado all the time to test for leaks
as for removing the isv i do this on my others to clean up the engine bay...all it really does is help control idle when a/c is on etc...many drill a tiny hole to flap to get a bit of idle air or crack the tb open a bit...i removed mine 5 years ago with my corrado and its perfect...i ask if it will work on audi because i dont want it to screw ecu..but being a output i say it will be fine...
no ididnt touch bypass valve..as for maf i dont see me damaging it all i did was install the cone to it...thanks a mill for all the replies guys
