Pointers on removing ECU and swapping chips
Getting a new chip from bob myers sometime this week, essentially the same stage chip but with different codes for my current software. I read his guide on chips-ur-s.com multiple times but have yet to actually attempt to get at it.
Does anyone have any pointers not mentioned in the guide?
Maybe a simpler version?

Simpler?
Dude, with the pictures, it's about as simple as it gets.
I used small slivers of wood to hold the clips open on that ECU when I separated the case from the boards.
Also, the stand-offs opposite the connector were in good condition, and easily separated (no weird stuff required) such that the boards could be pulled apart.
One thing to keep in mind: Bob sends the chips with the pins splayed more than the width of the sockets, so you have to CAREFULLY (!!!!) bend the pins toward the center of the chip. I bent them all at once against the workbench so they'd be nice and even. Also, don't put the chips in backwards or you'll smoke them.
Don't bust the MAP tube off. No fix for that - except buying a new ECU.
