Default preparing for S6 sport wheel swap into S4, quick questions and yes I STFA already

Gentz,

I'm getting ready to swap the S6 sport wheel into my S4, hoping I can pick your brain real quick. I have the S6 column with all the switches, the S6 clock spring and the S6 wheel.

Previously Weldon told me that I could just swap in the switches, and wheel with clock spring.

Don't I have to swap a couple wires? I've found the write up on cutting/gluing the clock spring, I would prefer to not do that if I don't have to, any input?

Thanks
Chris

Default The only thing you need to do is re-pin the colume switches.

What you do is re-pin the A6/S6 colume switches, use the A6/S6 colume covers, & bolt on the S6 wheel. Done & over!

Now not sure the pin differences from a //s4 to a //s6..but thats what I had to do to put this stuff on my V8.
No need to cut/JB weld anything.

So a careful analysis of the S4 wiring vs S6 wiring?

Thanks for that Ron. I had no idea it'd be that easy. Anyone know the wiring differences off hand?

Default It isn't that easy. You need an S6 harness plug to swap the S4 pins into. And then there is the

actual swapping of the pins.

If you stay with the S4 column, you need an adapter bushing because the inside of the S6 switches has a different diameter than the S4 column.

Personally, I bought all the S6 switches but decided it was too much work. Came up with "Method 2" and "Method 3". Steve Young did the write-up.

Good luck. Bentley is incomplete. Somebody who did this needs to post the pin-outs they used.

Default I find it hard to believe that this "method" will not work on you guy's //s4's.

The parts I described are exactlly what I used & it's a bolt on! There is nothing out of place with the install. The //s4 4 spoke wheel bolts rite on the V8...so why won't the way I did my V8's work on the //s4?

& the pin swap is prolly different for the //s4 to the V8 so I can't help you guys out with that. But as I mentioned every part bolted on as if it was the OE V8 stuff. I didn't need any bushing/spacer/anything....just the parts I mentioned.
I kow of @ least three V8 guys with this "mod".

Default The S6 steering column (not the splined part) is a different size (bigger), switches are different.

Pin-outs are different. Bentley is incomplete and inaccurate to the point of being dangerous.

Needs lots of patience and trial and error to get the pin-outs correct for the swap. Dave Ellis from Audifans S-car list is going to document the pin-out and the connector PNs, etc.

V8s are closer genetically to the UrS4 than the UrS6 so I'm not surprized the swap was easier for you.
