Default Project S4 Update:Frustration!!

Ok, just a little update.

I got the cam position sensor plug from the junkyard yesterday, thanks for the tip Dave!! I also tracked down the OEM wiring and hooked up the new plug to the wires. I checked for continuity between the plug and pins 8,12,19 and found the resistance to be under 1 ohm. I then followed the bently porcedure to check the voltage at the ECU plug. I turned on the ingnition and ran plugs 8 and 12 to ground pin 19. I saw no voltage at either pin, manual says 4-5 volts but the only suggestion it has is replace the ECU. I would really appreciate some help on this one. Thanks

Default What did you measure?

If you are measuring the voltage at pin 12 on the ECU harness with the ECU disconnected, there should be no voltage, since the voltage there comes from the ECU's voltage regulator.

Plug in the ECU, turn the car on, and measure the voltage on the CPS harness under the hood between the wire that goes to pin 12 and the other wire that does not go to pin 8 (should be ground). There should be 5 volts there. If not, try between pin 12 and a good ground.

Default Re: What did you measure?

I just checked the voltage at the cps plug with the ECU plugged in and the igniton switched on. No voltage at either the sender wire or the hot wire coming into the plug when grounded. I checked the wires continuity and it looked good, so I'm out of ideas, and hoping the ECU isn't fried. Any ideas or other things to check?

Default Is this the ECU you put the boost chip into backwards?

Does anything else work? Can you blink out codes from the ECU?

Yes, thanks for announcing it to everyone!!! <embarassed> ;-0

Quick update, I found the 5 amp horse shoe fuse in the rack above the ecu was blown, is that the ECU fuse? I'm hoping....

Default Heh. Sorry.

Yeah, I was hoping for your sake that you had a blown ECU fuse. Hence the question about reading the codes. Put a new fuse in there and cross your fingers that it doesn't blow again.

I remember that a crapped out coil would cause the fuse on the far right to blow, and once blown the CEL wouldnt turn on at all nor would the car fire up, just crank.

Default Right, the coils are on the same fuse the ECU is...

At least one person on the s-car-list added individual fuses to the coils to avoid this problem. If I ever do the 1.8T coil conversion I'll probably do likewise.
