Default Quattro5: I have questions for you reguarding your HID's

1) What exactly do they euro lenses have over US versions? We are just talking about the front glass of the headlight right?

2) Since I'm cheap and it comes down to price, should I just order the regular sized kit, or is it worth the money for the slim ballast? Do you think having slim ballast made finding a place to mount them any easier?

3) Where did you mount you ballasts?

Default Order the regular sized kit...here's why:

FYI, I bought the DDM Tuning slim kit...would not buy again.

The slim kit is longer, the same width, and shorter. It is a rectangle shape.

The regular kit is shorter, same width, and taller. It is more of a square/cube shape.

The slim kit is nice, until you realize you need more surface area needed to mount it.

It's easier to mount the shorter length, yet slightly taller height regular kit than it is to mount the slim kit.

Default I can answer for you. 1) The euro lens has less fluting, which results in less

light dispersion. The difference is slight, but most people have pitted lenses and a DOT lens is not available separately so the only option is the euro lens.

2) I ordered the regular kit and it came with the slim ballast (Apexcone).

3) I mounted the driver side ballast on the washer resevior using double sided tape.

I'd recommend relaying the ballasts as the current draw on start-up is significant and shuts down the stereo amplifier.

How do you relay the ballasts? I suck at electrical stuff.

Default I was able to mount both "normal" sized ballasts on the fender side of each headlight...

The passenger side is easy, driver's side is a little tight with the washer fluid res, but it fits nicely. You can hardly see my ballasts with the hood open.

Default quick sketch of relay wiring diagram

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/52091/relay.jpg"></center><p>
you can use one 20 amp relay per ballast or if you can find a 5 pin with 2 outputs, then you can use 1 relay (40 amp).

DDM sells this already made up for their HID kits, $25.<ul><li><a href="http://www.ddmtuning.com/hidkihidbuhi.html">Relay kit, scroll to bottom</a></li></ul>

Default the ballast fit perfectly right underneath the lights

there's a perfect spot on top of the frame rail, directly below the headlight. you can't see anything non-factory when they're mounted here.

euro lenses provide a crisper lighting pattern.

Default I used to have them there, but noticed they were getting wet...

I never had any problems though since they are water tight. Just chose to relocate them to the sides...

Default Quattro & EDIGREG: Did you both buy & use the wireing harness? I have an aftermarket stereo

with two amps, and I don't want to cause any additional issues, so if using the wiring harness could avoid it then it would be worth the $25. However, wouldn't current draw shut down the amp regardless, since it is still drawing on the system, just different wiring?

EDIGREG, are your HID DDm Tuning also?
