My S6 is normally a single driver car only and suddenly my air bag light came on. My shop pulled codes and believes that the passenger airbag is bad (They said the bags get dried up). Since I rarely ever have a passenger the question is how can I bypass the code? I believe if the light is on it means the entire system is not active. Is this correct?

There are specific codes for the drivers and passengers airbag and the control unit. If I had a passenger airbag code I would "believe" it or the wiring was bad. I believe it is a continuity check for the wiring and actuator. I don't know how it would know the bag is "dried up". I don't fault them for perhaps making guesses to fit the problem, because the fix is the same.
I know of no reason that the light de-activates the entire system. Why would the driver be deprived of airbag protection just because the passenger side didn't work?
