S4 as a daily driver?
Good idea or not? I may have to get rid of my '87 944 Turbo due to family responsibilities, and I'm interested in the early S4s. I've owned a '99 A4 with a 1.8T, other than being more powerful, how does the S4 5 cylinder compare as far as power delivery and overall character? Any feedback/ impressions you guys could give would be appreciated, there aren't exactly S4s on every corner that I can go test drive.
Shameless plug, anybody interested in a potential trade let me know, it's in great shape.

Same as the Savant. 2yrs - daily driver.
They have their quirks - like any car - but it combines having a comfortable roomy car with something as fun to drive as my old BMW motorcycle was to ride.
It is also the car of choice at work going to lunch - as it has a comfortable back seat.
I think you will love it!

daily driver x 2 or 4 even here.
My daily driver for 2 years - 95.5 s6
My wifes daily driver for 4 years 95.5 s6 avant
Dad's daily driver x 3 yrs 93 s4
Mom's daily driver for 6 years 95 s6 avant.
Very reliable - they are getting up their in age so need routine repairs and age related parts wear out. There are a number of parts that should just be replaced based on age - if you take care of them you are very unlikely to get stranded.
I can't think of a better family hauler. Certainly no better bang fot the buck currently out there. Perhaps when the 2001 M5 prices drop into the reasonalbe territory.... but until then. The urS-cars are as good as it gets.
