Default Shifter issues....

Ok, so since the clutch is back in the car I've been having some shifter issues, and I'm not quite sure whether it's misalignment still (despite the tons of time getting the bastard right) or somethings broken. I centered the shifter several thousand times while the bolts underneith were tightened, until the thing finally felt right in all the gears, which it does. The gate though to put the car into reverse (push down) is gone now. I can simply slap the shifter over into reverse without pushing down, and the shifter will also go in "no man's land" over between 2nd gear and underneith reverse, which is quite annoying if you're trying to downshift from 3rd to 2nd. I'm going to try adjusting the shifter's centerpoint back a little more, but I'm not sure this will help. If anyone else has encountered this and something is actually jacked in the shifter or whatever, let me know, as I'm at a loss as to what else to do here.

Also, what exactly does the second linkage rod do? Not the one that slides back and forth for gear changes, the one that appears to pivot?

Default Just a thought but....

I know on the Coupe the shifter plate that holds the shift lever and pivot ball has a reverse detent tab on one side. It's easy to make the mistake of mounting the plate 180 degrees backwards and everything would still work except for the reverse detent.
