Steering rack leaking...
not gushing or anything but wet spots on my garage floor.. Steering seems fine although i hear a little groaning when engine is still cold.
I've inquired some locals shops and almost collapse upon hearing what it takes $$$$ to fix it. Is this a DIY type job you think?
Since it's only dripping a bit and not gushing, do you think its still got some life before it dies completely on me? Power steering fluid level doesn't really drop significantly..
Any opinion?

somewhat sure.
1. local shop verified it today but then again they prolly just want my money.
2. the boot is torn and is wet with fluid.
will double check again.

Since i'm the most recent guy to have this problem here... lemme chime in!
the rack was shot, the bellows were cracked and the seals inside the rack were shot. at the time i only have the dealer replace the rack. after that 2 miles down the road my power steering went out. the new rack was too much for a failing PS pump. so now its been about a month, finally am taking it back to the dealer for them to replace the pump and the hi pressure hose too since that has a leak also. it's gunna be about $1,100 from the dealer for the rack. and the pump replacement is going to be close to a grand. i hate this car at the moment. hopefully after it gets fixed i'll want to keep it. as of now i am looking at a real nice '96 993 TwinTurbo Porsche, its gunna be a steal, cause i know the guy. anyways good luck its pricey, but remember to "DO BOTH THE PUMP AND RACK AT THE SAME TIME, IF YOU DO CHANGE OUT THE RACK, SAVE ON SOME OF THE LABOR."

even with repairs to a 911 Twin Turbo, i'll still be smiling... the money is not what i'm...
complaining about. its the little things that cause other parts to fail, and also i'm bored of the power of the car!
