Hey everyone.. Well, I have a problem. I've been noticing that my parking brake has been sticking. When I let the brake lever down, it doesn't gain much tension in the cable. The parking brake light remains on. When I drive a few feet, the light goes off and the lever gains back it's tension.
So, tonight I pulled off the rear wheels and tried to fix the problem. The drivers side is A-ok. The cable pulls the little parking brake caliper cam, and releases it when the brake lever is put back down.
The passenger's side is a different story. I popped out the cam and cleaned off the cam's shaft (had a little rust), oiled her up, and popped her back into place. Had a friend pull the parking brake lever, and it pulled the cam down. But, the cam didn't return to it's original position. I needed to really pry it back to a released state.
Long story short, I think I'm looking at a sticking parking brake cable on one side. any other opinions? how do I fix that???
thanks

If the cable is sticking, I'd say you have to replace the cable.
Try this first, release the end of the cable from the brake caliper cam. Then move the cam back and forth. If it moves freely and returns just by the force of the spring, then you've probably got to replace the cable.
Also, you can try moving the cable itself when you remove it from the cam. If it doesn't slide freely within its sheaf, there's your problem.

I'm going to be doing a BIRA kit soon where I'll be running stainless brake lines.. how big a deal will it be to run new parking brake lines at the same time?
