Switching from IR to RF remote locking, sticking with Audi OEM. Discuss.

I thought the same system was used through 97 (C4 sedans) and 98 (Avants)?
Anyway, the same remotes were used on other Audis- my ex-95 Cabriolet had the same remote as the 95.5 S6's.

Yup, go aftermarket.
I got a viper 211HV for $50 shipped on ebay. It has a small keyfob that isn't super ugly and it was pretty easy to add comfort close windows and trunk release on the 2 extra channels. It's the best kit I could find after a year of searching for a simple keyless entry system without remote start or an alarm.

Well, you can probably use the '97 fob, but will need the same brain as well....
He's right... it won't work with the '95.5 brain on it's own. I bought one off Ebay to try it. No workie.
