Default Tapping noise once car is warm,

I have a light tapping once the car reaches normal operating temps. It is only at idle and if i hold the revs at 1200 or above it disappears. The car has 140k on it so i am just guessing a noisy lifter. Anyone else have this issue? I did a search and found no topics. Maybe just a fluke on mine?

Could be anything, including a rod bearing. Change your oil and see if goes away.

I just got the car about 2000 miles ago and changed the oil then. The prevoius owner had it dealer serviced but didn't use synthetic. I put castrol synthetic in when i bought the car. The noise is not a knock like a rod bearing with clearance issues. I just thought i would see if anyone else here had similar noise.

Some cars don't like synthetic if they haven't "grown up" on it.

Default A rod bearing would be associated with low oil pressure readings

Sometimes it also happens on my engine then it goes away- When I did the head I should had the valve hidraulic lifters replaced...

And a heavy metallic noise under load. Me thinks its a lifter too.

Default I've never tried your "shadetree mechanic" trick. How does it work for you?

but I have used lifter conditioner over the years and have fixed some sticky lifters with it. BTW rod bearings don't make noises at an idle unless they are wasted and about ready to blow up. But you probably knew that. Don't worry Dave I am not saying you are WRONG I was just commenting about his engine noise. But as you know if you don't like my answer you can always delete your post and mine along with it.

I was thinking that it may not like synthetic also. I know all the oil changes the previous owner had done were with some cheap oil pumped out of the ceiling. That is what we use where i work, penzoil i beleive. I may try and go with a heavier oil than 5W40, or maybe just a synthetic blend instead of whole syn. It doesn't concern me terribly just seeing if anyone had any luck with quieting lifters before.
