Those of you who have replaced the stereo in the car...

Did you see a great improvement? I hate to say it but when I go from either of my cars with nicely done stereos, into the S4... I swear it still sounds better.
It could use an 8" on the low end for sound quality, but overall I'm always really impressed.
Did you change for quality? Or did something break and you wanted to swap it out?
Just curious, cause I hate our head unit, I'd love to upgrade to an Mp3/CD or possibly one that reads dvd discs... but I'm hesistant to remove all this good stuff.

If you like the Bose, then keep it. Or, keep the amps and speakers and replace the head unit.
But FWIW, I find my upgrade a big improvement. I probably lost some bass and volume relative to the Bose setup, but the clarity is much improved.
The sound staging is not very good, but without picking up fiberglass fabrication as a hobby I don't know how I can improve that.

I like my aftermarket much better, but the one big advantage the stock systems have in our cars is very good forward imaging. Once you change away from stock the soundstage has a rearward bias, especially with my trunk mounted 12" sub. I'd like to get custom lower door panels to fit 6" speakers in the front and tweeters up top but its not in the budget right now.

and 2 JL Audio 12w3-D4's in a bandpass/ported box coming in through the ski hole. worked quite well in my old 100CSQ. but... in the S6 still debating on whether to do it or not. I still have teh Alpine deck, the subs, the box, and te sub amp. dunno if i wanan put more weight in the car. but it sounded so so good, i had it adjusted to sound good, but when i wanted you could hear me coming from far away. Have a sound violation to prove that. hehe

I am very happy with this setup. Everytone told me that I only needed 6x9s on the rear deck but I went overkill with the components. I will add a set of 6.5" to the front doors shortly. I'm also planning a sub but I can't decide on the configuration. I don't want to lose any room in my trunk for golf clubs.
Here's what I installed. Alpine CDA 7998 MP3/CD Head Unit, Alpine CHA S634 6 Disc MP3/CD Player, Alpine TUAT020XM Digital Sat Receiver, MB Quart QSD 210 4" components for the front doors and QM218.61Q 6.5" Components for the rear deck, JL 300/4 Amp with a Lightning Audio Digital Capacitor.
