Default Yeah, here you go.

Yeah,
Robert Dupree

robert_a_dupree@bankone.com

He know's your car and is a pro-rally co-driver/driver. His former driver switched suspensions on an Audi S2 from Sachs to something more economical and has some internal spare parts for the Sachs/Boge setups. That guy has no use for them anymore and might sell them to someone competiting.

Just FYI guys:
Bob Dupree is s good friend of mine, I actually recruited him to run with our driver about 3 years ago. We recently switched to the DMS suspension setup on the S2, and indeed do have some pieces parts left over, that I'm sure are available for purchase. You can email either him or me, and we can let you know availability of specific items.

Many of the A/S stuff is discontinued. The shock service parts were one of the first for our team. Clutches will be our next challenge, we 2 of the last spares about 2 years ago.

Bob and/or I will try to help you guys out the best we can.

Default Great!

Scott,

Robert and I talked last week. I was considering entering my quattro in the Paris Texas rally coming up in December.

At this point, I'm probably going to pass on this years event. I can't justify the risk to the car versus the potential cost to repair... well anything if it breaks. Until SCCA decides to create a historic class for an 83 Audi Rally car, I'll probably avoid rallies. It just doesn't make sense to run an expensive collector car against throw away Subarus. So...
Since you already know Bob and I'm not rallying it looks like Squidix9 might be the only person in the country who would be interested in those suspension spares. I've still got one complete set of spare uprights, hubs, shocks in my garage so it'll be quite awhile for me. As far as I know there are two S2s competing and one Coupe GT and currently zero UrQuattros.

BTW, were you the driver he was talking about on his "right seat from STPR" story?

Great thread at least for the three of us.
Audiworld should make a Audi Rally/competition forum for this stuff. I've been in the UrQ forum mostly even though my car has a 20V sport Q engine w/ RS2 equip., The S4 forum is more appropriate to you guys. But we have similiar suspension and transmission components.

Default I hang out in the

80/90 forum, but other than the shell, I don't have much in common on any forum actually.

This isn't a very busy forum, so it's as good as any.

James:
No, I was service at STPR for 559, our driver bought the car about 4 years ago from a guy in England. My interest in the Audisport stuff is really from the basis of my business (audi quattro tuning/service). Our driver is not interested in being "truly" competitive, but has been committed to keeping quattro alive in rallying. The A/S exhaust creates an I5 sound that brings mobs (and chagrin to the sound ck guys).

I've also known Rick S for almost 10years now, and he was the one that told me about the sale of Bruno's car to you. Congrats! Don't forget to get an intense tour of his audi library, it's pretty extensive, I've spent 10years trying to acquire half of what he's got.

WRT spares, I really think it's important that the improvement/source connection be communicated, as well as, defining the differences in the cars built. Many times audisport changed things mid stride, without documentation. Squidix S1 head is a prime example. The orignial S1 heads didn't use shims on lifters.

WRT rallying the urq, there was a guy in MI that had converted his '83 and was running at the club level. I spoke with him a few times wrt helping him out (warren I believe), but haven't seen or heard from him in some time. But really, in terms of bang for buck, the best rally car is doing a 10vt into a 4kq or 90q, the parts are readily available, and it makes for a good low cost option to the big dogs. Kemp did quite well against the competition for quite a few years in his 10vt4kq.

WRT lists, I cover just about all the quattro ones mostly lurking (both audiworld and audifans), but have seen both of you on the AW lists for a while (in fact James, don't forget to go back to the ur-q forum and ck out my reply on locking diffs, I came in late on that one).

WRT which list to "hang" on, you get good information from them all. As of late, I tend to post more in the forums that are more technical in nature (read: low signal:noise ratio.

Thanks for the thread.... Rally on.

Scott,

Did you happen to see my post on the Audifans Quattro email list regarding rear diff bearings?

I've got 4.11 rear diff in my car now and have a load whine that changes with the engine revs. It goes away while coasting. There are three bearings in the rear diff. Is there any particular one that I should suspect first or should I replace them all. What weight of gear oil should I run in the rear diff. Perhaps whats in there now is too thin.

Default Re: Kemp

What do you mean Kemp "did", I think he's still doing.

He actually lives right around the corner from me.

Default Part of what they did is just like anyone else

My car is loaded with parts that are labeled Car1 or 2 or 3, as cars were... retired, the spares sort of migrated. Sometimes down the line, somebody may have noticed someting they could improve on. My struts are S1 with the newer S2 lower perches.

If you look you can spot similarities too. Check some interior pics of the S1's. You'll see little white lines on the gas gauge. I guess no one ever bothered to fix the senders, so they just re-calibrated them all to suit. Girt had a funny way with things sometimes.
