My transmission or diferential makes whiny noise when you have it in gear. It makes noise only when you accelerate or push gas pedal. You can leave it in gear and don't press the gas pedal and sound goes away. What could it be. No oil in transmission or differential?

Bad pinion bearing, "known issue" with 92 & 93 S4's, and some 94's. If the sound is there while in gear or not (clutch depresses), and increases in pitch as you roll then it's most likely the pinion bearing...
Try adding some Miltec-1 to quiet it down, but this will only be temperary.

Where is it located? This noise sounds like when you have it in rear gear, that whinie noise. When the car is rolling its not there only when its under load in gear. What could it be.
