Default VAG-Com questions

i finnaly got a laptop and i'd like to get VAG-COM on it.
ross-tech is the website right?
is it free or you have to pay for it?
wich version do i want?
i'm watching these cables on e-bay
will they work?
basicly i'm asking someone with experience for what do i need and where to get it from.
my service reminder is driving me crazy for quite a while, i tried to reset it but the laptop at the shop couldn't comunicate with the car, i could read codes and clear them but couldn't get into instruments
any input is much apreciated
thank you!<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;ih=014&amp;sspagename=S TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&amp;viewitem=&amp;item=33009766040 8&amp;rd=1,1">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;ih=014&amp;sspagename=S T

Default If you can swing it, buy an interface from Ross-Tech. If you use a homebrew/ebay type interface, ..

you will have to use the earlier version (3.xx) of the software, which has some annoying (but understandable) copy protection. The later interfaces act as the copy protection so you can move the adaptor around from machine to machine.

I built my interface, but in retrospect I should have spent the extra $100 and bought one.

That's a good price on the 2x2 to OBDII adaptor though. Should work with the Ross-tech adaptor no problem.
