The view from 30,000 feet
Repost for your enjoyment:
Before I bought my 1997 urS6 (Hoppen Stage II-290 hp), I believed in the physics of power to weight ratio; I still do, but to a lessor degree.
My car weighs over 3800 pounds, and the tiny little 2.2 litre engine "only" produces 290 bhp. I've seen stats showing my car with the stock engine doing zero to 60 times in 5.5 seconds (that's fast). I've also seen stats showing the car with the Hoppen Stage III (320hp) doing zero to 60 in 4.9 seconds.
The new S6 (4.2 litre V8, 340 bhp) is said to run zero to 60 in the mid six second range. My father in law drives a Jaguar XJR (supercharged V8, 370 bhp); it's said to do zero to 60 in the range of 5.5 seconds. The Ferrari Maranello, with it's 485 horsepower V12 only gets to 60 in 4.7 seconds (and it costs a lot more).
In a nutshell, don't be fooled by mere horsepower numbers. There is something wild and wonderful about the 2.2l 20v turbo. It fights like a tiger, revs up quickly and smoothly, and has no trouble smacking that 7000 rpm redline repeatedly. With four people in the car, it still goes like its *** is on fire.

its a rally engine. Its powerful but within limits of reliability. :-)
Lehmann built the engine for Bruno in 98. The figure I'm stating is their bench dyno. check my picture poster for pics of the engine.
