What do I need to convert an aux-in signal to match the stock cd-in signal?

I tapped into the cd-in signal at my gamma head unit and installed an aux-in jack for mp3s. I did the same on my old C4 and it works well, but the sound quality isn't close to the same as the cd.
The cd-in reads 20k ohms and the aux-in reads 3.3k ohms. Do I need some sort of in-line amplifier?

Tapped into the two wires marked "line-in", one is green/black, other is white. Ran those to a swtich which I connected the cd and aux inputs to...So yes, the cd changer wires are disconnected when the switch is flipped.
Is there a third wire (ground?) coming from the CD player?

It's been a long time since I did this so I can't give you specific instructions. I used a DPDT relay to switch the two signals and left the grounds connected all the time.
