After driving on the freeway at some miles-an-hour over the speed limit on Saturday I came home to notice what sounded like a vibrator in the trunk while the car was at idle. I thought to myself 'well I know I don't have one, but maybe the previous owner...'
I wasn't able to locate said sex toy but I did isolate the buzzing, it loudest in the back seat, trunk, and rear wheel wells.
Okay, thought I, maybe it will fix itself.
Same noise on Sunday.
Damn
Now today when I went to go move the car it has become a higher pitched whine. Sounds like a fuel pump from a big SUV (you know how you can hear them sometimes).
The car runs okay. The idle is a little loopy right when you start it but I chalk that up to dirty/old sensors.
So whats the deal, is the car going to strand me if I drive it? I know you guys cant say for sure, but how long does a pump last when it starts getting noisy? How is it supposed to sound and how loud?
Thanks a bunch!

like you described. And yes, the fuel pump is in the area you spoke of on the UrS. Funny though, my UrS fuel pump pickup was clogged (see post below) but I dont remember it making noticeable noises...

The fuel level is just to the first of the red bars on the gauge. Is this too low?

they have a finite life and anytime after 100,000 miles they will die. I know some people go much longer but I say why take the risk and become a victim of your car. Take control and pre-empt the failure. See instructions on replacement below.

http://www.elektro.com/~audi/fuelpump/</a

I read your posts in the FAQ and believe me a new pump is on order. I'm just trying to figure out if the car will get me to work while im waiting for the pump to arrive.

I put in 10 gallons this morning and that has quieted it down. A new pump is on order.
