It'a all about time/stories vs. instant cash w/no stories. If you can wait for top dollar, you can..
..usually get it or come close. If you have the patience to deal with the buying public, and go on test drives, wait for people to get loans that do not get approved, answer calls/emails/stupid questions, take cars for mechanical inspections and then have buyers change their minds because the car needs a valve cover gasket ("I thought you said it was 'mint condition'??"), etc., then by all means go for it!
Some people just have a target price in mind and are willing to forgo some extra money in exchange for a zero hassle fast sale. Some people are happy and able to wait for the right buyer at top dollar.
That's what makes the world go 'round!
