Metal reflectors so you can increase bulb wattage w/o melting stuff. I'm just doing the euro lenses

Default My headlight plan-

Sticking with the DOT assemblies, replaced sandblasted DOT lenses with new euro lenses from ecstuning.com, ($130 pr) install 9011 HIR bulbs in both high and low beam. Add a relay set up when I can get some of the factory connectors to keep it clean. My guess is this will be close in performance to the Euros for much less $$$. One could also modify the DOT low beam projector mask to match the Euro pattern, simply triming the piece of sheet metal that is the mask would accomplish this.

Default The OEM DOT headlights don't work as well as the Euro's. However, there are .....

less expensive alternatives. (Euros are like $700 or so).

1) Buy Euro headlight lenses (different beam pattern) from PUMA and install them as per the instructions (I wrote) at:

http://www.urs4.com/technical/headlights.html#clean

2) Upgrade the bulbs to either HID's (at about $500)
or get in on the group purchase of the new 9012 low beam and 9011 high beam bulbs. (about $120 for a set). See posting below.

3) Relay your bulbs (even stock) so that they get more voltage. (Pull power off of the "battery" terminal up by the firewall.

Hope this helps

Default are we sure this is true, I have a new euro headlight

and I could swear the materials are the same.
The only reflectors I could see were metal were the fog reflectors and that is true for both DOT and euro. I will admit I need to take a closer look...

Not sure. Read it on urs4.com. IIRC.

I believe metal is true. However, the headlights in Britain (UK) were still plastic. Ooopps.

Default Dave, I worry about running the high wattage bulbs with the factory wiring.

Has anyone had issues? Are relays recommended, required?

Default Looks pretty good and fairly cheap.

I made my own for the coupe when I installed the RS2's. I wonder if that harness allows the lows to stay on when the highs go on (this was must for the RS2 lights)? And I guess that it is recommended even for factory lights. But is it required to avoid damage to the factory wiring with highere wattage bulbs?
