Will 996 (non-turbo) calipers work with RS2 brackets?
I've heard the 996 calipers are somewhat less than 993tt calipers and I already have the RS2 brackets. The 993tt calipers have gone up to $800 per pair.
Will the 996 calipers work with the RS2 brackets or will I need a different bracket?

OK here is the rundown, this is from experience...
as I have fitted these systems myself. For the S4 and S6 this is the "bolt on" system:
RS2 Caliper Brackets
993TT "Big Red" Calipers
US A8 Rotor (323x30)
Note: To get perfect centering of the caliper over the rotor you must shave 1mm from the mounting face of the RS2 Caliper Brackets. I've run without shaving the face, but eventually it will lead to uneven pad wear.
Now the European A8 314x30mm rotor will not work with the above setup, it is too small in diameter. The ECS stage 2 that uses this combo has a custom bracket!
For a 90 B4 or CQ with S2 Hubs you can bolt on the RS2 bracket, 996 calipers and European A8 rotors. Now on an S4/6 this system would require machining of the RS2 Caliper Bracket, far more than with the 993TT and A8 323x30mm rotor. The 90 B4 and CQ have less hub offset, thus if you slapped on a system for these models the caliper would sit too far inboard for the rotor.
Cheers,

Re: Will 996 (non-turbo) calipers work with RS2 brackets?
I priced them - they are actually both the same price now.
Unless you can find them used - there doesn't seem to be as much of a market for used 996 (non-TT) calipers.

Er, free shipping?
Those things are heavy!
I actually would like to convert to the "stage 3" style two piece rotors when I wear out my 314s, but from what Alex said in this thread it sounds like I'd need new brackets. (I have the ECS stage 2 brackets.)

ECS will let you buy up to stage 3 if you are already stage 2.
Costs around $500, IIRC, for new brackets, rotor rings and rotors. You can also sell the old brackets to some one looking to build their own stage 2 kit.

Hmm... that's a pretty good deal.
Considering the cost difference between the kits is (was) about $500, it's more expensive not to start with 2 and switch to 3... You get a free set of rotors (the A8s) and whatever you get for the brackets.
