Is it worth the $$ for VAG-COM software for our cars

being that we only have the OBDI setup? Would the software give enough info to help aid in diagnosis and checking for fault codes? The cables can be had for about $95 on ebay (including the OBDI adapter). Anyone use the ROSS-TECH software on a UrS4 with good results?

My wife bought it for me years ago. It is one of the most useful tools I own.

I recommend against the ebay interfaces

I built my own interface, essentially the same as the ones sold on ebay. It works fine, but in order to run the software you need to register it to a particular computer, and you can't use the latest version. If you buy a so-called modern interface from ross-tech (I think they start at $130) you can avoid the registration hassle (because the interface itself acts as the copy protection) and you can use the latest version.

Rather than buying the expensive OBD2->2X2 cable from ross-tech, I like Skolnik's idea of grafting in an OBD2 connector from a junkyard. It's only four wires.
