I have found a cheap must-have accessory for all Q4s on Amazon, for just $16
"A Better Backup Camera Hood for VW ID.4 Improves Picture Quality at Night (ABCH-01-00)"
Our reflective rear license plate sits directly below the rear camera, as does the ID.4, which is fine until the sun goes down
In the dark, the plate light lights up the plate, just like it's supposed to
But the now-lighted plate is at an angle, and it shines up on the camera, which throws off the auto-contrast
Get this tiny hood, which hugs the camera housing and is held on by 3M tape, and it's fixed!
You still can see perfectly out the back, but now the camera can't see/read your super-bright plate anymore
You'll need to loosen your dealer-advertising plate holder and slide it to the bottom of the slot, to allow for the very thin hood installation.
Clean under the housing before using the 3M tape, with the included alcohol towelette (sp?)
Anyway, what a difference. Shame on you, vaunted Audi/VW engineers, for not including a plate holder that tilted the plate to be vertical
Some enterprising maker with a 3D printer CYA-ed ya.
Good for you, maker! Hope you 'make' a mint!
edit: Or... maybe they DID include a vertical plate holder, and forgot to tell the port guys there was an up and a down side to the plate holder.
Back up at night and tell us if you can see your plate, then look to see if the plate holder is 'directional'
