Default smoked bu a BMW suv?

It really bothers me that my 2023 Prestige Q4 restricts the available power to the wheels based on the battery charge. As the post title suggests, I was at 65% battery charge and flooring the accelerator gave me about 70% power. I shuda had 110% power (with boost) and the BMW would have been in the rear mirror!! Audi could have used the "dynamic" drive setting to override this restriction. I haven't heard of this restriction except in the iD4. Is this the way it is?

It's an odd "feature". Do you only get full power with above 80% charge? If you are not supposed to charge above 80% for battery health, does that mean you never have access to full power unless you charge above the recommended charge level?

I get 100% power with an 80% battery charge.(no boost available). However the available power reduces linearly to about 65-70% as the battery charge goes down to 35% - 40%. I typically recharge at this time, since the range is down to ~75 miles. To get the boost to be available (which I think might add as much as 10-20% power) I need to charge above 80%. A 90% charge will allow about 2/3 of the boost power. (the boost reduces to zero as the battery approaches 80%) These numbers are what I am getting in Chicago where the ave temp is ~50 degrees right now. The performance was better in the summer but I expect it to be worse when it really gets cold this winter.

I wonder if the powertrain improvements promised for the 2025 Q4 e-tron and 2024 ID.4 will remedy this power drop-off as you go below 80%. I have not heard of any other EV models having this type of power drop-off and as others have mentioned, I don't get why this is not a huge deal brought up in Q4 reviews.

I too am puzzled why there aren't more complaints. I know of one other Q4 owner locally who observes the same phenomenon, but it doesn't bother him.
I guess not everyone is a closet race car driver.

These EV vehicles are amazing, but once you figure out the limitations it's a bust on who or what can smoke you. If you are a true racer, maybe an EV is not your best choice. I got smoked in my 2012 Shelby gt500 by a 1970 cougar, and smoked a dodge viper. So depending on the day, the mods, you never know.

Pretty much all EVs suffer from power degradation as the SoC gets lower and lower. Not necessarily this extreme, but it's a fundamental issue. Even the notion of a Boost mode is radicicolous. It shows the fundamental limitations of electric powertrains not able to deliver max power consistently w/o overheating or the battery simply unable to deliver the required current. Just imagine ICE cars would reduce power as the tank gets emptier, or could only deliver the rated max horsepower for 10 seconds at a time. What a silly concept. I suppose in North America, most people never really use full power, but just take one of these onto the German Autobahn and watch how it gets slower and slower on the unrestricted sections. Most EVs do. There are only a few exceptions such as the Taycan where it doesn't happen until the battery gets really low, but even the Turbo S can only deliver full power during a launch.
