Default Audi SQ8 oil consumption

This one Audi USA knows about. They changed the piston rings (only inside 4/0K warranty) to a new set of 8 pistons and piston rings, and connecting rods. They will have to perform a oil consumption tests (2) to establish if oil usage is beyond their rated amount. (do know know what that figure/spec is yet). You can be sure I will be watching my oil level, and starting a consumption test at dealer if anything is awry. I've owned V-8 and V-6 twin turbo Mercedes for years and they NEVER burn oil. The TSB Group 13/ Number 23-19. 13 23 21 207 1114/2.

I hope everyone who reads this that has the 4.0 V-8 will take heed. My guess is that this is a $5K-$8K repair outside of the 4/50 warranty. 2023 Audi SQ8 Quattro (4MN)

Yeah they replaced my engine at about 8000KM if I remember correctly. Still ended up with a low oil light, then they tried to charge me for a top up. I got rid of it in November. End of the day I didn’t care it was a lease.

Does anyone know the oil consumption spec for these 4.0 engines (how many litres/quarts per 1,000 miles)

Check your owners manual. It should be like the similar Porsche Cayenne GTS V8, a Quart in 800 miles deemed normal (going from memory). The spec is obvously meant to make it hard to warranty excess consumption. Mercedes has a similar spec. The engines use low tension rings top and bottom so break-in can be a factor. I found that short trip city driving uses more oil than highway...probably because of more cold engine miles. For whatever reason there seems to be a large difference in oil consumption across similar V8 engines.

First 10k, was using about 2 quarts every 5 k miles. Last 10k, has slowed to about 1 quart every 5k miles.
